Job functions and Key Accountability:
Ensure compliance with all current departmental policies and procedures.
Interpretation of physicians’ orders, checking, verifying, compounding and dispensing medicines.
Identify patient correctly to ensure the 5 rights (patient, drug, route, time, and dose) and counseling patients on the effects, dosage and route of administration of their drug treatments.
Maintain effective communication with patients and their relatives. Ensuring medication reaches the patient in the correct form and dose – which include tablet, capsule, ointment, injection, inhalers, cream, and syrup.
Provide information and make recommendations about over-the-counter drugs, advice patients about durable medical equipment and home healthcare supplies.
Give advice about diet, exercise, or stress management and help patients manage conditions such as diabetes, asthma, smoking cessation, or blood pressure.
Responds to medication related queries from within the hospital, patients, their relatives and also recognize and respond to changes in patient's condition.
Prepares the sterile IV medications under aseptic conditions, check for its quality and maintain the sterility.
Responsible for accurate dispensing and timely distribution of drugs and medicines for In-patients and Out-patients, maintain the In-patient profile.
Answer telephone calls responding to questions or requests.
Coordinate with Chief Pharmacist for developing and implementing mainly the hospital pharmacy policies and procedures to meet with JCIA requirements.
Looks after the Clinic area medication management, which includes floor stock inventory & stock updating in coordination with Chief Pharmacist & nursing department.
Coordinate with Chief Pharmacist and IT department to update the IT requirements towards the pharmacy service development program.\
Getting medication approvals from various insurance companies.
Checking the medicines shortage regularly and requesting for re-order, also regular monitoring of the short expiry medicines, rotation of stock for the effective handling of the near expiry drugs and to coordinate with the supervisor for the replacement of the near expiry medicines also check the supply from stores and enters inventory data into the computer system whenever possible. Inventory auditing as per hospital policy.
Ensures medicines are stored appropriately and securely to maintain freshness and potency.
Managing the medication error and support the drug utilization information system and being aware of the latest medicine and their availability.
Supervises and checks the work of pharmacy tech, pharmacy intern / student pharmacist and less experienced staff in the absence of Chief pharmacist.
Performs other duties as assigned by Chief pharmacist.
Ensures to keep the department secure, clean, neat, and tidy always.

Requirements:
Education: Graduate of accredited medical college and completion of postgraduate training with specialization in Infectious Disease, primary care (Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics) or Occupational Health.

SCBU
Caring for newborns admitted to the SCBU and being involved in training the nursing staff; as needed. Should be well versed in the clinical problems a baby above 32 weeks can encounter, like RDS, Sepsis/Shock and complications like Pneumothorax etc. Should also be familiar with various modes of ventilation, CPAP, UVC/UAC line insertion etc. Should be able to evaluate a case of metabolic disorder in the NB and clinically assess dysmorhologic syndromes.
Labor and Delivery Ward:
Attends high risk deliveries and C-sections for possible neonatal resuscitation, fetal distress, etc…Shall also be responsible for attending Preterm deliveries, MSAF, Breech and mom’s with abnormal CTG
Inpatient ward
Rounds in equal rotation with other pediatricians. Teach Nurses as and when required and also partake in teaching of registrar.
Neonatology
This will apply particularly with those pediatricians more involved in NICU. Develop guidelines for routine and emergency care of Babies. Be involved in teaching programs. Shall maintain a high standard in infection control in NICU and help in developing this unit
Pediatric Cardiology
Shall be able to screen for Congenital Heart Diseases by performing and interpreting EKG, X-rays, ECHO etc.
Shall be able to screen baby’s with acquired heart illnesses like cardiomyopathy, myocarditis, Rheumatic Heart diseases, Kawasaki’s disease etc.Where ever referral is appropriate, shall refer these patients away after initial evaluation and stabilization
