On April 6, 1990, AECOM became an independent company formed by the merger of five Ashland entities. While their official founding was in 1990, some of their predecessor firms had distinguished histories dating back more than 110 years.
Since then, more than 50 companies have joined AECOM and, in 2007, they became a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: ACM).
During 2014, their combination with URS Corporation was a game changer for the industry, more than doubling their revenue and workforce, furthering their status as the world’s #1-ranked engineering design firm by revenue, according to Engineering News-Record magazine.
In 2015, they were recognized by Fortune magazine for the first time as a World’s Most Admired Company.
