The world’s tallest building, tallest hotel, largest manmade island and biggest mall can already be found in Dubai, with a new super-sized collection of skyscrapers, the world’s biggest observation wheel and a host of new hotels and restaurants on the way.
But just when you thought Dubai couldn’t get any more wow-worthy, we’ve rounded up some Dubai projects you may have forgotten about, that we can’t wait to see take shape.
1. ALADDIN CITY
It’s been a while since we’ve heard word of this magical new development at Dubai Creek, but Aladdin City is slated for completion in the fourth quarter of 2018. The development, inspired by the ancient legends of fictional heroes Aladdin and Sinbad, is made up of three golden structures designed to look like glimmering genie lamps.
2. CITYLAND MALL
Yes, another mall for Dubai – but with this one, at least we’ll have the excuse that we’re spending time in nature. Cityland Mall – which is being developed by the same people behind Dubai Miracle Garden and Dubai Butterfly Garden – is described as the world’s first “nature-inspired” shopping mall, packed with botanical wonders. It’s expected to be in full bloom by the end of the year
3. DUBAI STEPS
One of six ‘future projects’ approved back in 2016, Dubai Steps is a stunning architectural building designed to look like, well, steps. It will soar 100 metres above the ground, and will likely be built near Union Square on the Deira side of the Creek (although a confirmed location has not been given). Once finished, there will be 500 steps to climb on the tower, and so it will be an attraction for both tourists and those wanting to get fit. Quads at the ready….
4. THE HEART OF EUROPE
Currently only Lebanon Island on Dubai’s World Islands projects is open for public use, but that’s set to change when the Heart of Europe opens. Masterminded by Austrian developer Kleindienst, it’s spread over six islands. The ‘countries’ that make up the development are Germany, Monaco, Switzerland, St Petersburg and Sweden. The development will be 4km from the coast of Dubai, which will take about 20 minutes by boat. There will be 12 hotels in the development in total, including a ‘six-star’ hotel on Monaco Island, 10 sold-out palaces on Sweden island and Switzerland island that will be temperature controlled so that it is always snowing. Late last year we were advised that snow testing would begin imminently, so we can’t wait to hear how these islands are progressing.
5. THE TOWER
The Tower. The Dhs3.6 billion project is being built in Dubai Creek Harbour, and is scheduled to be ready by 2020.
